Desert Dowsers History

The Desert Dowsers had their first meeting in September of 1984 when Linda Knudsen returned from an American Society of Dowsers’ Convention in Santa Cruz and contacted local dowsers about forming a chapter of ASD.

The Las Vegas group became an official chapter of the American Society of Dowsers in July of 1985. Linda Knudsen became the first Chapter President and served in that capacity off-and-on until September of 1994.

The dowsers pride themselves on keeping open minds on all subjects and listening to a variety of people and ideas. Subjects that have been presented and discussed include: geosophy, sound therapy, earth changes, time windows, parallel universes, Ayurvedic healing, electromagnetic fields, mazes and labyrinths, miscellaneous topics in metaphysics, meditative techniques, UFOs, the use of magnets, Huna practices, Therapeutic Touch Healing, kinesiology, Reiki, noxious energy zones and cancer, Feng Shui, Silva Mind Control, crop circles, Arctic ice sculptures.

Many well-known dowsers from across the country have spoken to the local group. These have included past-ASD Presidents Walter Woods, Tony Gehringer, and Greg Storozuk. Other dowsers from across the nation have included Roman Malach, Greg Nielsen, Kumen Meservy, Vince Wiberg, Katherine Metz, Alex Champion, Dennis Swayda, and Robert Wade-Mahany.

From the local area and part of the local chapter, master dowsers Morgan Whitaker, Gene Dambold, and Jean Henson (now all deceased) helped form the group and helped with instructing the members.

The local community has provided speakers with many different interests. Some of these speakers have included: Sam Gonzales (Silva Mind Control); John O’Donnell (Therapeutic Touch Healing); Allan Lewis (author of two books on Huna); Dr. Joshua Kruger (Chiropractor); Jay Pemberton (magnets).

At the same time, the dowsers have tried to be active in community events. They have provided demonstrations and information for the Green Valley Library, the Gold Prospector’s Show, and various other events.

Desert Dowsers have dowsed several water well locations in the local area. They have taken frequent field trips to dowse for such diverse items as petroglyphs, minerals, old mine locations, lost items, etc. Those trips have included such localities as the Searchlight area, Lanfair Valley, Lee Canyon, Sunset Park, Corn Creek Springs, Keyhole Canyon, Cathedral Canyon, Kokoweef, Mithcell Caverns, Hole-in-the-Wall, Fort Paiute, Old Mojave Trail, Nelson, Lovell Canyon, Needles area, Stumpf Springs, Valley of the Fire.
